<p>The facility was separated from Kelly Field in June 1942 and was known as San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center, although frequently referred to as 'The Hill', and was the largest such installation in the USA at the time. It was renamed several times before becoming Lackland AFB in January 1948. Lackland has no runway and therefore no aircraft operations, although a number of displayed airframes sited throughout the complex are believed to be employed for instructional purposes. The AAF Basic Military School was formed in February 1946 to conduct basic military training for active-duty, ANG and Reserve airmen. In addition, the facility conducts technical training for security police, training instructors, the Officer Training School, plus many other courses. The 3250th TTW was formed in November 1979, and was replaced by the 37th TW in July 1993.
